In today’s world of $4 per gallon gas, saving every bit helps.  Well, for those of you with a Windows Mobile Device there may be some help for you.  It’s called Car Maint. & Fuel Economy by BlueKatana, Inc.  This software has some nice features.  It can keep track of everything from brake changes, all sorts of filter changes, tire changes, all your fluid changes and even chassis lubes and the like.  This makes calculating your real world cost of ownership very easy.

Once the software is installed, you add a vehicle (didn’t see any limits to the number of vehicles) and you can start entering data.  Each time you fill up you enter the miles driven (based on trip odometer I assume), the amount of gas purchased and the cost of the purchase (total. not cost per gallon).  It calculates your MPG and with the more data you enter the more accurate your MPG reports will be.  If you enter the costs of the other services into the database, the program will generate a cost of ownership report for you.  The more data in the database, the more accurate your reports and the more you will know about how much it costs you to drive that commute.  It will also show you how your driving habits affect your gas mileage and other aspects of keeping your car running.  Hope this helps save you a few gallons.
